According to the mosque's foundation charter, its construction was started by Kaya Çelebi Zade Koçi Bey in 1660, but it was later completed by Cem Dedemoğlu Mehmet Bey in 1663 after Koçi Bey was executed. After the repairs made by the Directorate General of Foundations in 1993, the mosque was opened to worship. The facades of the mosque, which was built with two-color face stones, were animated with windows in different forms. In addition, a gate allowing entrance to the mosque was placed in the middle of the northern facade. There are plant and geometric ornaments engraved on the gates and windows on this facade. This constitutes one of the important structures of the Ottoman period. It is the only mosque in old town of Van that is open to worship.
