It is located in the village of Hoşap (Güzelsu) on the Van-Hakkari highway, in the Gürpınar district of Van. The castle, which was built on a steep rock mass in the northwest of Hoşap Stream, consists of the inner castle and the outer castle to its north. The castle, dating back to the Kingdom of Urartu as part of its history, has survived to the present day as it was built by the Principality of Mahmudi, who were subject to the Ottoman Empire. According to the epigraph on the entrance gate of the inner castle, it was built by Mahmudi Süleyman Bey in H. 1052 (1643). The castle, which was abandoned in the middle of the 19th century, has survived to the present day largely intact with its structures. For this reason, it bears the characteristics of being one of the remarkable symbolic structures in the region.
