ST. BARTHOLOMEUS MONASTERY

The Monastery is located in Albayrak Village of Başkale District. The monastery and square hall attached to the western entrance of the church (jamatun) built on a hill overlooking the Great Zab Valley were built on the same date. According to the popular wisdom, the church was built on the tomb of Saint Bartholomew in the 4th century. Based on the reference information about the monastery, it is accepted that the church and its jamatun were built at the end of the 13th century and the beginning of the 14th century.
