Çarpanak Island is located in the Çitören Village locality falling in the northeastern part of Lake Van. On the island, there is also a monastery dedicated to Saint Jean, thought to have been built in the IX or XI century. This monastery can be reached by boats from the village's pier. Only the church part of the building, also named as Ktouts Monastery, is intact today. The first written documents regarding the island and the monastery date from 1414. After being largely destroyed by an earthquake in 1703, the monastery was rebuilt between 1712 and 1720 by Master Kaskaper from Bitlis.
