Mount Artos is the extension of the Southeast Taurus Mountains. It forms an important elevation of 3700 m in Kavuşşahap Mountains. Mount Artos softens the climate of the basin against harsh and cold winds. Mount Artos is one of the few geographies in the world, especially in regard of butterfly population. It is home to about 200 butterfly species. The only mountain in the world displaying features equivalent to Artos is in New Zealand.
